Agony - Mark Slaughter
I lost my arm, a leg; the head
Of once my brother fell to me.
I caught it with a scream caressed with
Bowels, anointed with our blood –
Arterial – of crimson zest –
Ethereal in oxygenation.
My mother whined a haunting dirge
Of ‘Why? ’ and ‘Will this never end? ’
I answered with my bluing lips
And gurgles of antiphony.
Dying in our agony,
We make a sorry nation.
This poem is about the loss of a family member, who died at war, and how those who were close to the person who died, react. Also that with all of the losses from war, it is not just a couple of people who are affected, but the whole nation is.
War Mean - Brie Carter
War Means death
War Means destruction
War Means fire
War Means bombing
War Means sorrow
War Means turmoil
War Means tears
War Means guns
War Means blood
War Means confusion
War Means explosions
War Means mutilation
War Means sickness
War Means killing
War Means occupation
War Means loss
And lots more
But after one side
Or the other side
Has finally had enough
And lays down their arms
To surrender and give up
War Means Peace
This poem talks about all of the horrible things that war means and brings, but it also says that after one side has won the war, it can bring peace.
War is... - Cody Stephan Heldak
War is fighting brothers,
War is bombs exploding,
War is crying mothers,
War is bodies floating.
War is following orders,
War is young dated,
War is falling mortars,
War is time wasted.
War is mixed blood,
War is true sadness,
War is wet mud,
War is ultimate madness.
War is innocent deaths,
War is many tears,
War is unwelcomed guests
And they all last for years.
This poem talks about all of the horrible things that war is, and what occurs from war and how these things may not only have an effect during the war, but also for many years after the war is over.
The War It Is Over - Francis Duggan
Despite death and injury it has all been in vain
The war it is over but the hatred remain
The war it is over but the hatred won't die
And that war leads to peace and justice is always a lie.
The war it is over but not dead and gone
The simmering hatred and mistrust for decades live on
And too few realize two wrongs don't make a right
In a darkened soul you won't find any light.
This modern warfare is a horrible thing
Such suffering to non combatants it does bring
The pilots who on bombing missions do fly
Drop their parcels of death from the clouds of the sky.
The war supposed to end all wars ended decades ago
Yet in the twenty first century the numbers of the war dead grow
We need more people who believe in live and let live
You kill someone's children you they won't forgive.
The war it is over but the mother in tears
The death of her innocents she will grieve for years
They lived in the wrong building and were there at the wrong time
Yet a war bombing mission gone wrong is not seen as a war crime.
This poem is about how just because wars are fought, and won, doesn't make all of those wrongs during the war right, and when something that people know is wrong, does happen during a war, it is usually looked passed because the war is thought to be bringing a better future. It is also about how just because a war has ended, it does not mean the hatred between those people in the war has vanquished.
